Broadband Expansion
When providers are reviewing the areas to provide services a big factor is the number of homes in the area and the distances between the homes. Large rural lots are not areas that a provider will typically lay lines to offer the services that residents may be looking for. The City continues to update providers of increased housing and development to show the growth that supports the services desired by residents.
There are currently two separate areas of the City in which we are working to expand internet services and speeds.
East side - this area had limited service from one provider that was not willing to further increase the available services. In working with a second provider a current expansion is underway. This areas of the City has seen substantial growth since the providers last reviewed the number of households in the area. This extension of services will connect additional 178 households to services including a few homes located in Bethel who are also in need of options. This expansion is being completed the Fall of 2021
West side- the city along with Anoka County and Midco are working towards an expansion of services through laying roughly 3,500 feet of fiber. This would connect the current 51 properties that are in need of services and support future development. This expansion expected to be completed 2022-2023. Additional information will be updated when available.
